Targeting Success:

The story behind our team

The Lancaster High School Rifle Team has a rich and storied history dating back to the 1940-1941 school year, when it was first established to coincide with the onset of World War II. Originally a co-ed club, it later evolved into an interscholastic sport.

The earliest photo of the team, featured in the 1941-1942 Cayugan yearbook (shown right), was taken while the high school was still located on Aurora Street. Though the original location of the range remains a mystery, Lancaster has long been known for its success in rifle competition, consistently earning Section VI team championships and producing individual Section VI champions.

Over the decades, the rifle team has cultivated a legacy of excellence, drawing from the deep-rooted tradition of shooting and hunting clubs that thrived in the early 1900s.
